Coaster (motorship)
Colliding in a heavy fog on the night of August 25, 1938, with the steamship North Coast the 94-foot freight motorship Coaster of the Coast Steamship Co. of British Columbia, sank near Point No Point, Puget Sound. Capt. F. J. Brown and his crew of seven were taken off by the North Coast. The Coaster was bound for the Tacoma smelter with 109 tons of gold concentrates (valued at $24,000), while the North Coast was en route from Seattle for southeastern Alaska with passengers and freight. After returning to Seattle with the rescued men, she resumed her voyage. The ferry Ballard arrived on the scene shortly afterward, made a further search for survivors, and picked up a lifeboat from the Coaster, which was found floating, together with the pilot house and texas of the sunken craft.
