Foss 209 (barge)
In late September the barge Foss 209, a converted Navy LST, loaded with a $2 million cargo consisting of cement, mobile homes and general cargo and in tow of the Leslie Foss, overturned in the Gulf of Alaska and became a total loss. Under an Environmental Protection Agency permit, the barge was towed to deep water some 60 miles off shore and sunk by explosives. Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1975, H. W.
