Nathaniel Hawthorne (steamer)
The government owned Nathaniel Hawthorne, Capt. R. C. Brennan, was torpedoed twice on November 6 in the Caribbean Sea just off Port of Spain, sinking in 30 seconds. She carried to their deaths Capt. Brennan, 28 of her crew, seven of her armed guard and a passenger. Seven survivors were picked up by an American destroyer. Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1942, H.W.
