Noydena (towboat)
The 99-foot steel towboat Noydena, owned by Knappton Towboat Co., sank and the 300-foot barge she was towing capsized in a late night accident at Chapman's Landing in late October. The barge, heavily laden with gravel, apparently struck the bank at a sharp turn in the channel, causing the load to shift and the barge to capsize. The crew of the tug escaped injury, although the vessel's upperworks were demolished. Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1969, H. W. McCurdy Marine History of the Pacific Northwest 1966 to 1975, p.71.
