Nuchek (barge)
A leaking cargo gasoline tank on the diesel self -propelled barge Nuchek, a 105-foot craft operated by the New England Fish Co., caused an explosion and fire which destroyed the vessel and cost the life of G. R. Percival, a mechanic who was aboard at the time. The Nuchek was en route between two outfitting yards in Salmon Bay, Seattle when the blast occurred late in May. Capt. T. H. Davis and other members of the crew were injured. Gordon Newell, Maritime Events of 1923, H.M. McCurdy Marine History of the Pacific Northwest, p. 565.
