(Dead Man's Bones)
This is a very old world recipie and not a cookie you would normally
- 2 lb. cake flour (1 box)
- 2 lb. powdered sugar
- 6 tsp baking powder
- 7 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla or rind of small orange.
In large bowl beat eggs and sugar and vanilla or rind. In another
bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Sift 3 times. Combine
the above -- work quickly.
Roll out to loaf lenghth and about 3/4" wide - cut into about
1-l/2" lengths. Place on slightly greased cookie sheet.
Space -- they spread when baked. Cover -- let rest 24 hours.
Bake 350 degrees 15 minutes. Approximately 93 cookies.
As the cookies bake, the top of cookies puff up almost like a
meringue and believe it or not they DO LOOK LIKE
DEAD MAN'S BONES!
They freeze well.
Roger and Pauline MacLennan. The recipe comes from their very good friend,
Jean Lusco, who they say is the world's "best Italian cookie baker"!
