Are you interested in preserving our Italian heritage and culture?
If your answer is YES, we invite you to join the American
Italian Heritage Association. The AIHA was established in 1979
by Professor/Cavalliere Philip J. DiNovo in Morrisville, New York.
We are a non-profit organization and our goals are to record and
preserve our Italian Heritage and Culture. We are a national
organization with over 1,450 members in 40 states.
The AIHA operates the Italian Cultural Center & Museum, located
at 668 Catherine Street, Utica, New York 13502. It is the only
Italian-American Museum in Upstate New York, located in Utica's
"Little Italy" on the east side of the city. Our Center and Museum
stands in memory of the Italian immigrants who came to the United
States. We are grateful to them for their many sacrifices and their
contributions to this country. In the Center and Museum you will
see the following:
* The Immigrant Room which contains a photo exhibit,
immigrant memorabilia and artifacts.
* The Art Gallery where Italian-American artists exhibit
paintings, sculptures, photos, prints, etc.
* The Italian Folk Art Room which houses a photo exhibit of
the Hilltowns of Italy, artifacts from Italy, an authentic
Italian regional doll collection, and memorabilia.
* In our hallway, we have an old photo exhibit on Italian-
Americans in Sports, Italian Americans in the U.S.
Armed Forces and Italian Americans in Religion
The Center & museum also houses a library, archives and a
video library which contain books and videos dealing with the
history and culture of Italy, some genealogy resources, and papers
all having to do with Italian history, culture, etc. There are two unique
Italian-American gift shops selling books, cookbooks and maps,
as well as mugs and t-shirts, meeting rooms, and a Cafe Blanco
Snack Bar.

(It is important to note that while we have a few genealogical
resources...a couple of books in our library..we do not provide
the service of sending out genealogical material.)
Tony, many people write to Prof/Cav DiNovo and request genealogical
information from him.....and almost no one sends a stamped self-
addressed envelope....for any requests. In their small library in
Utica...they may only have a couple of books..about genealogy....
that is about all. They may have one book in their giftshop
dealing with Italian Genealogy..."Italian Family Research" by
Summit Publications...that is the only one I know of....but people
need to know....as a courtesy...they should send a self-addressed
stamped envelope...for any requests.
