GIBELLINA SURNAMES

This Society is dedicated to our ancestors who were born or lived in Gibellina, Trapani Province, Sicily, Italy. The purpose of the Society is to share information about Gibellina and our ancestors so that others might also learn more about their families also.

My Ippolito and Fontana families came from Gibellina, Trapani Province, Sicily. My great great great grandfather was Leonardo Ippolito born abt 1794 in Gibellina. He married Rosa Fontana born ?, died September 20, 1837. Their son Paolo Ippolito born abt 1827 moved to Partanna, Trapani Province to marry Anna Mistretta born 1819 in Partanna. It is the source of the parental information. Paolo and Anna had a son Leonardo who was born March 6, 1853. Paolo was murdered in Partanna shortly before Leonardo and his two brothers emigrated from Sicily. Leonardo came to Brooklyn, NYC. His brotheres went to Argentina and Texas (passing through New Orleans) respectively.

Leonardo married Elizabetta Liotta born Oct 6, 1857. Elizabetta and their daughter Anna born Jan 16, 1885 can be seen in family pictures at my home page.
